New York’s Activity are excited to release a new single, “Earth Angel,” from their forthcoming debut Unmask Whoever out March 27 via Western Vinyl. The single is intense but minimal, eliciting a feeling of reflection and even fun disassociation.
“It’s a song about the freedom of a lifelong love,” vocalist Travis Johnson explains. “I think we were going for a very Talk Talk Laughing Stock vibe in general. The vocals at the end physically hurt to perform. I could taste blood.”
The debut in its entirety leans to ideas of exposed personality flaws, paranoia, and the human ability to grow even when the truth is ugly.
Established only a year ago, Activity are vocalist/sampler operator Travis Johnson, drummer Steve Levine, bassist Zoe Browne, and guitarist Jess Rees. Each member mutually described the project as a highlight of their careers.
Together, they outlined the positive experience the band has been, explaining it as a space where each member has freedom to thrive artistically as well as support each others’ strengths. The ability to craft a great bond and friendship doesn’t suck, either.
