News: Blacktop Mojo Release New Single ‘As The Light Fades’

Blacktop Mojo have released the track “As The Light Fades” to be be followed by a full-length studio album, Pollen on April 5. The song evokes all the feelgood vibes of infectious energy you’d expect with summer and young love. It’s an anthem for everyone stamped with the band’s trademark sound of “Southern grunge.”

Origins of the song track all the way back to 2021 when Matt Curtis and Matt James were hanging out on the porch of their band house playing around with a Bob Seger-like melody. It eventually progressed into a hell bent, classic rock ‘n’ roll hit with additions from the one and only Rob McNelley (guitarist for Bob Seger, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, and Luke Combs) himself.

Matt James, lead vocals for Blacktop Mojo states:

“As The Light Fades” is a nostalgic look at young infatuation that turns into life-long love, from running inside when the streetlights come on all the way to the last tender kiss shared before crossing into The Great Beyond.”

Matt Curtis, bassist for Blacktop Mojo, comments:

“As The Light Fades” definitely had all the feel good classic rock ‘n’ roll vibes, a style we hadn’t really touched before in previous albums. We honestly couldn’t be happier with the result, especially after having Rob McNelly, who has played for Bob Segar add some guitar to it.”

Blacktop Mojo was formed in late 2012 in the small town of Palestine, Texas by vocalist Matt James and drummer Nathan Gillis. They coined the term “Texas Grunge” to describe their unique take on the since famous Seattle sound of the ’90s.
