Body Count, “one of the most important bands in punk rap-metal history” (Afropunk), recently announced the March 6 release of their seventh album, Carnivore (Century Media Records), and have released an animated video for the album’s titular track.

Body Count, the band fronted by Ice-T, formed almost 30 years ago in Los Angeles, California. Now, with six albums behind them, including 2014’s Manslaughter on Sumerian Records and Bloodlust in 2017 on Century Media Records, Body Count plan to continue to solidify their legendary status with Carnivore.

“It’s basically: ‘Fuck vegans.’ We figure, anything carnivorous pretty much kicks ass. We’re carnivorous! I’m not [really] saying ‘Fuck vegans.’ Everyone’s so pussy right now, [so] we’re carnivores.”

Ice-T, explaining the meaning of the album title in a 2018 interview.

Beyond the title, cover, and this first song, not much is known about the band’s upcoming release. Previous releases have featured guest appearances by the likes of Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), and Max Cavalera (Soulfly), and the band are no stranger to controversial lyrics and themes throughout their music. Whether it be “Cop Killer” or “Talk Shit, Get Shot,” Body Count have refused to soften their songwriting, image, or lyrical content.

More information about Carnivore is expected to be available in January, including pre-order packages for the album. Body Count have released European summer touring dates including multiple festival and headlining performances.
