News: Calling All Captains Break Down New EP, Talk Tour

Calling All Captains

Pop-punk, emo, and post-hardcore band Calling All Captains are touring the country in support of their new EP (e)motion sickness. The Canadian natives describe this new chapter as one of their most innovative.

If you’ve noticed different bells and whistles in Calling All Captains latest release, you’re onto something.

“We like to push boundaries and grow with everything we release, so we added in some new elements on this record that our fans haven’t heard before,” the band say. “Luc has a side project as an emo trap artist under the name Gaffwood, so we experimented with adding some of those styles in the second verse of ‘Be Cool’ as well a ‘808,’ an acoustic song with Connor singing, and an electronic interlude-all mixed in to our signature post hardcore/ pop-punk sound.”

The crew credits the EP’s producers for the new vibe. The band worked with its go-to-guy, Royal Tusk’s Quinn Cyrankiewicz, on the collection. He has been producing the band’s music since its Nothing Grows Here days. But Calling All Captains hoped to add an additional electronic vibe to this album.

“We brought in producer Duncan Cook to help take aspects from ‘Skin & Bones’ and ‘One More Day’ and put them into our song (the ‘Float Back’ interlude) that is very cool,” the band say, describing the EP’s creation process

The band recently wrapped up the Midwest and Atlantic region of its tour with support from Pennsylvania pop-punkers Goalkeeper. Packing popular venues across the regions, Calling All Captains puts together personal and unique recaps on its social media pages after each show. Its use of emojis are endearing, making the posts fun to read.

“As far as playing the songs live, it’s tough to say which one is our favorite. It changes with every show. We’re currently on tour across Canada and the USA … There are some nights that ‘Wallflower’ goes off the most and some where it’s ‘Skin & Bones,’ the band say. “Every night we have people who drive hours to come see us and tell us how much our music has helped them, and bring us gifts, and its just been so cool.”

Calling All Captains is about to enter the final leg of their tour as they travels back to Canada. But the band promise a return stateside soon. Keep a close eye on the band here.
