Southern California’s shoegaze group of eclectic imaginative musicians, Cold Gawd, are leveling up for the next album I’ll Drown On This Earth. Cold Gawd just released their single “Gorgeous” before the album release August 30 via Dais Records. It has an amazing depth, blending dream pop with heavy rock into swirling currents in different dimensions with every emotion felt within. Singer and songwriter Matthew Wainwright describes this album’s “Go for it” mode and direction. Many songs on this record were written in 2022, but the actual birth of these creations wasn’t until March of this year.
The album was recorded in Paradise Recorders in Anaheim, California with Colin Knight (Object of Affection). Two pre-release teasers will rock your heart and mind. “Gorgeous” is soaked with distorted instrumental music and soft-spoken vocals embracing each other. You will not get enough of the hypnotic lyrics. The song gets very screamo with so much pain and strength being highlighted. It’s quite beautiful.
Another teaser for this album, “All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned For A Thing I Cannot Name,” is loud and powerful with a great deal of conviction. This song sets the listener free, ready to turn that key and drive till the wheels fall off. It’s got this beautiful, enduring, melancholy vibe. This whole album captures the soul with riveting riffs, into a whole new level of sound bursts that makes you float. I definitely agree with Deftones endorsing this phenom group. They seem like a band of brothers, mad scientists breaking down the walls of anything in this music world. Cold Gawd are on point and have reached beyond expectations of awe and amazement.
