Current Joys, the solo project of singer songwriter Nick Rattigan, announced his forthcoming album ROSEBUD via his independent label They Are Evil. Consisting of 10 tracks made up of newly reworked songs, ROSEBUD oscillates between two extremes: a mix of electronica, maximalist hyperpop, and power-pop and the reflective melancholy of his previous work. In addition to the announcement, Rattigan released the album’s lead single “HOLE,” alongside a music video directed by Davis Stewart. The antithesis of his 2013 pensive breakthrough record Wild Heart, “HOLE” finds Rattigan’s penchant for experimentalism on full display. Chorus swell with glitchy hyperpop mania as Rattigan coasts alongside a chill power-pop groove. Inspired by his work alongside experimental hip-hop artists Lil Yachty, Polo Perks, and Ayooli, ROSEBUD sets out to create a universe where anything can happen. “I wanted it to be a collage of all my influences,” Rattigan explains.
