Pop punk and alternative band Dead Bundy drop their newest album, Held Back. It’s modern pop punk done to perfection with elements of other genres sprinkled throughout.
“It was so fun putting this one together as a unit,” the band say when talking about creating an album on a label for the first time. “In the past, we sort of just wrote songs and released them.”
The Ohio natives say Held Back provides a overarching theme with various concepts interwoven throughout. You can hear it on the song “Rockstar,” which features the band’s typical, spitting vocals, and power-chord-heavy melodies. But a creative bridge helps keep the track fresh.
The artistic creativity, mixed with tried-and-true pop punk, is front and center on the anthemic “Graduate.” It exemplifies the band’s focus on the importance of maturing, even while keeping a youthful energy.
“We got to really plan out our theme, and every song ties into the concept of being a grown up ‘Billy Madison’ figure who just can’t seem to get ahead,” the band explain.
Dead Bundy recently hosted an album release party with Dive Bombs, Detention, Ink, and FRND CRCL. The latter will release their own album next week.
