The Top 5 From The Sticker Guy Himself!

With the marking of the anniversaries of Sticker Guy! and Slovenly Recordings, Peter Menchetti, the head honcho behind both companies and organizer for the DEBAUCH-a-ReNO and We’re Loud festivals, has this to say about his choice five titles from the label’s immense catalog.

So you wanna know my top 5 favorite Slovenly releases? Well, there are almost 300 of them now, and I’m slammed with work, so I’m just going to throw out the first five that come to mind! Obviously (at the risk of sounding immodest), I love every record on the label — otherwise, we wouldn’t waste our time & money to put them out. But here we go!

1. We’re Loud 90s Cassette Punk Unknowns 2xLP might be my all-time favorite release for a bunch of reasons, one being that it represents the best-ever collaboration between Slovenly & Black Gladiator; and also for the story behind it and how well it represents punk rock as an outlet for the desperation & boredom created by life in Anytown USA.

2. The Spits 2nd  album, of course – it’s the one we sold the most of and is a classic that creeps will be freaking out over for generations to come. And for the lyrics to “Rat Face!
3. Acid Baby Jesus 1st album – is a psych-punk masterpiece. It hits hard & heavy and oozes all over you. This band barely ever plays anymore, and I miss them terribly.
4. The Monsters Du Hesch Cläss, Ig Bi Träsch LP – this album gives me the giggles every time I listen. A genius move by my favorite Swiss freaks to release the mother-tongue version of their album on a US label and the English version on their own. A high point for our Mondo Mongo imprint!

5. Reigning Sound “I’ll Cry / Your Love” 45 – gotta pick at least one 7-incher, right? It was an honor to release this as our 50th and hand-deliver them to the band at Gonerfest in Memphis forever ago. Still a regular spin when I DJ!
