In the words of Etta James, “At Last.”
It’s taken nearly 15 years, but Der Weg einer Freiheit might finally be on the brink of blowing up big time. Earlier this week, the German band announced its longest-ever tour. To boot, the post-metal Der Weg einer Freiheit just released a new concert video, for the song “Am Rande der Dunkelheit.”
Der Weg einer Freiheit—whose name translates to “The Way of a Freedom”—recorded the strobe-tastic clip during a performance in September 2022. Unlike many music videos, the one for “Am Rande der Dunkelheit” gives all four band members equal time in front of the camera.
The band members are vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Nikita Kamprad; drummer Tobias Schuler; bassist Nico Rausch; and guitarist Nico Ziska.)
Now, without further ado, here’s the new video:
Der Weg einer Freiheit seem to have a proclivity for releasing live material, most recently evidenced by the “Am Rande der Dunkelheit” clip. In 2019, they put out the pristinely captured Live in Berlin, which sounded as strong as any of the band’s five studio albums. That said, Der Weg einer Freiheit’s Noktvrn drew raves when it came out in 2021 via Season of Mist.
Now it’s just a matter of harvesting a devout fanbase—if that’s what the German band wants. To that end, Der Weg einer Freiheit will start the longest tour of their career come Thursday. With Igorrr, Amenra and Hangman’s Chair serving as openers, the European stretch ends April 13.
