News: Diet Cig Release ‘Don’t Like Driving Like I Used To’ EP

Diet Cig

Glittery pop-punkers Diet Cig have released an EP, Don’t Like Driving Like I Used To, that reinterprets tracks from their 2020 album Do You Wonder About Me? The three track set ventures into synth pop, lo-fi textures, and acoustic adaptations.

The new EP continues a maturation of the band’s sound beyond the minimalist garage sensibilities that have driven the duo since its beginning. “Who Are You,” a standout from Diet Cig’s 2020 album, becomes “Who Are You? (Alt Version),” a fluttering, synth-driven adaptation. “Priority Mail (Alt Version)” extends the album version and subs out piano for grainy acoustic and fuzzy accents. “Broken Body (Acoustic Version)” gives a raw look at the song with front person Alex Luciano playing in unison to droning tape hiss.

Don’t Like Driving Like I Used To follows the band’s recent inclusion on The Metallica Blacklist tribute album, where Diet Cig reimagines “The Unforgiven” in a palette much closer to their own hooky punk fare.
