News: Dräger Releases New Single ‘Brooklyn BB’

Dräger, the synthpop project of Spencer Draeger out of Brooklyn, released a new single and accompanying video called “Brooklyn BB” that ruminates on the concept of nostalgia. The video highlights the theme by demonstrating how painful nostalgia can be when someone you care for leaves your life.

“Brooklyn BB is my bittersweet love story about looking back on that perfect day of the one that got away,” explains Draeger. “I put this video off for a while in editing because this song haunted me for the very reason I wrote it. Nostalgia is so deceptive. It’s like intoxicating love that you feel even stronger when she’s gone. To confuse loss for love … to not know the difference. To be lost in maybe an idea of someone rather than the reality and not care. There’s no logic, just the ineffable. This video is visceral more than narrative based, and I wanted to encapsulate a moment I had with someone from my past, like an old 16mm French story about love in the city. It’s my most intimate song yet about a life and place I don’t have anymore but still think about all the time.

“I shot this on five different cameras, two separate trips, two different states on multiple days,” Draeger continues regarding the video. “It was a real journey. I definitely couldn’t have done it without Ash Rose Daniels, who I didn’t even know when I asked her to be in the video. Now we are so close and she was the perfect person for my romance story in Brooklyn. Also when I wasn’t filming myself I had the best crew—a major shout out to Andrew Segreti who shot a third of the shots, Scott Kaplan who shot another third of the shots. Bryce Ruiz for his apartment and hospitality, and a huge thanks to my buddy Patrick Houston for his sexy dodge charger on the opening shots back in LA.”
