Keeping up with a yearly tradition, alternative band Driveways puts out an excellent set of tunes in the Fall with its new EP Tempest.” It’s the tenth release from the band.
“And one of our favorites to date,” Driveways adds. “The EP has some of the fastest and heaviest parts we’ve ever written, but it also includes some laid-back moments and the prominent use of synths and keyboards in a few songs.”
Because Driveways release music every fall, the band begins writing in the spring. The guys enter the studio between July and September with releases following shortly after. At least that’s what the band did this time.
“Lyrically and thematically, this EP is all about weathering the storm, dealing with different hardships in life, and not letting them become too overbearing,” Driveways continue.
Each song brings something unique to the musical table. The EP’s lead single “Ghost of a Smile” is both hardcore and pop-punk in one, with synths playing a key role. “Surgery” and “Hesitate” are bouncy and scratches the early 2000s pop-punk itch. “Wind and Waves” is dark and atmospheric, while “Autumn Always” slams on the breaks, bringing the album to a halt before ripping into fifth gear in the end.
But the standout song is “Sea Glass.” Driveways hits the bullseye with the song as it finds the perfect sweet spot between its traditoinal pop-punk and the synth sound the band is shooting for.
“We tried to hone in on this theme in some way on every song and hopefully create a cohesive project,” the band add.
It was a massive 2024 for Driveways, including tours across the country and a huge set at Four Chord Music Fest. Keep a close eye on the band in 2025 here.
