News: Earthy Indie Rockers Sadurn Sign to Run For Cover

Sadurn

Meet the newest Run For Cover label member: Sadurn. The Philadelphia indie folk act make tender and minimalistic indie rock that takes after the earthy spiritualism of Big Thief and the wiry lo-fi emotions of Elliot Smith. The band’s debut album, Radiator, is out May 6.

Initially the solo project of frontperson Genevieve DeGroot, Sadurn expanded into a full-band just before the COVID-19 pandemic brought much of the musical world to a halt. While that delayed the band’s public plans, the group became tight-knit and developed in the relative quiet. To record their debut, Sadurn isolated together in a cabin in the Poconos for two weeks.

Lead single “Snake” captures all of that charm and character. It’s a slow and gradually building track driven by DeGroot’s lyrics. Though it seems capable of exploding at any moment, Sadurn stokes it to a rewarding and blossoming end as the bandmates voices join DeGroot’s final line: “My idea of love is that it’s lasting.”

DeGroot, for their part, didn’t even take up the guitar until 2015. In that sense, Sadurn is a continued growth of their songwriting capabilities, now expanded by the possibilities of a full band.
