Emo and alternative rock stars First and Forever release their latest EP titled If We Go Down along with a crushing, anthemic new single of the same name.
“If We Go Down represents the next stage for First and Forever. As with previous releases, we have broadened our horizons, becoming simultaneously heavier and poppier,” guitarist Marcus Leopard says.
“If We Go Down” reflects that sentiment with a belting chorus and soaring melodies. Leopard’s guitar shredding is ‘S’ tier.
The rest of the EP lives up to that standard with “Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary” blending radio rock with 2000’s era emo. “Eulogy” might be the EP’s poppiest song, tightly produced with a smooth-as-butter sound. “Rivers” is heart-crushing. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” might be the band’s magnum opus.
“The song list has a wide range in terms of tone, melody, and subject matter,” Leopard continues. “Overall, this EP is the perfect punctuation to what we have accomplished as artists so far and is an even better gateway to the artists we are going to become.”
While First and Forever have struck a chord with contemporary emo fans, the new album feels like it will pull in the broader rock crowd. Keep a close eye on the band and listen to their other music here.
