Mississippi ska innovators Flying Raccoon Suit announced their third LP, Moonflower, recently. The album, due out November 17, is their first record on the rising ska powerhouse label Bad Time Records. According to Bad Time, the upcoming album fuses ska with a plethora of different genres including doom metal, which may seem like an odd combination, but is rather par for the course for this unique band. The band’s previous album, Afterglow, was also known for its fusion of ska with other surprising genres. Yet somehow, the eclectic mix of genres comes together to form a coherent whole.
Along with the announcement, the band released their first single and video for “Swan Song.” The video sees the band arriving at their rehearsal space to find the house being torn down around them. Filmed and edited by Chris Graue who created a similar video for NOFX, it puts the endearing frontwoman Jessica Jeansonne front and center to highlight her voice and star power. Her wistful lyrics add an undertone of sadness to the otherwise bright ska number. Check out the video below:
Moonflower is available for preorder from Bad TIme Records. Follow Flying Raccoon Suit on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for future updates.
