News: Funeral to Release ‘Gospel Of Bones’ October 18

Funeral

Doom titans Funeral are gearing up to release their ninth album, Gospel Of Bones, October 18 via Season Of Mist. Aside from the addition of vocalist Eirik Krokfjord into the fold, the band also incorporate the Harding fiddle into the mix, adding a sonic dimension to Funeral’s music on Gospel Of Bones and moving them closer to the realm of folk music.

Krokfjord, a professionally trained baritone opera singer, replaced vocalist Sindre Nedland in 2022 right around the time Violinist Ingvild Johannessen joined the band. It was during this period Funeral moved away from programmed orchestration to recording all strings analogue, including the addition of traditional Norwegian instrument, the Harding fiddle, into the mix of Gospel Of Bones. The record’s lyrical content is an autobiography of drummer/composer A. Eek hurdles and obstacles he’s faced, dealing with themes of darkness, misery, pain, and loss.

Look for guest spots on Gospel Of Bones by musicians Øyvind Rauset, Espen Ingjerd, Vilde Kråbøl, and Anders Langberg. Rauset hails from cult Norwegian folk-rock band Folque, and performs on two tracks. Espen Ingierd is a name you may recognize from cult doom/death band Beyond Dawn whose vocals appear on two tracks as well.
