News: Good Terms Drop New Album ‘Burnout’

Good Terms

Emo and pop-punk band Good Terms release their new album Burnout, punctuating an excellent year for one of the music scene’s fastest risers. The album is loaded with heavy riffs, peppered with ear-wormy hooks, and lathered in grit.

“We didn’t know exactly what kind of band we wanted to be going into this; we just knew we wanted to be ‘us,’ and the pursuit of that was not easy. We tried to eliminate any notion of ‘we can’t do that’ and just ask ourselves ‘why not?’ at every creative impasse,” guitarist and producer Zach Boucher says.

Good Terms called the album Burnout not just because of its deep themes, but creating the record sucked the energy out  of the band.

“After producing this album and pouring over every single note and transient, this album has genuinely taken everything out of me,” Boucher continues.

The band’s newest single, “Reaching,” is one of the album’s standout tracks. The tune soars—an anthem for the delusional, eternal optimist. It also premiered on SiriusXM’s Faction Punk.

“When I first started writing ‘Reaching,’ I was at one of the lowest and bleakest points in my life,” Boucher continues. But he was inspired by the lyrics to the Underoath song “In Regards To Myself” which includes the line “It’s all worth reaching for.’ “I started questioning. Is it?” he says.

Boucher began going through therapy, made progress, and wrote “Reaching.”

“I’m still recovering from that burnout, and I still have a long way to go, but I think the guy who wrote those first lyrics to this song would be pretty stoked to hear about how things are going right now.”

Each track on the album provides something unique, but the unreal vocals of Briana Wright from Cliffdiver on “Chickweed” might have been the most fun surprise. And The album’s closing track “Mirror Mirror” is wildly ambitious.

Burnout is one of the scene’s best albums of the year. Keep a close eye on any future releases and tour information from Good Terms hear.
