Canadian indie-rockers Gulfer released a new single yesterday called “Clean.”
The new song is a standalone single and marks their first new release since their Greetings/Barely single last year. The lyrics depict a fictional scenario of a person on the run after killing their boss. It’s a surprisingly dark song that contrasts the surprisingly upbeat music. “At this point in our career, I realized the songs could be about anything,” says guitarist/vocalist Vincent Ford regarding the new track.
Along with the single, the band also released a video that also contrasts nicely with the song’s dark lyrics as it features the band having a lazy day in a swimming pool. “The choice for us to set the video by the pool was a way for us to twist some of the song’s darker lyrics (There were two ports in the storm / fish him out in his uniform) into something bright and upbeat—that tension between the lyrics and the instrumentation is part of the song itself,” says guitarist/vocalist Joe Therriault.
