Progressive death metal band Horrendous have finished their fifth studio record Ontological Mysterium set for release August 18. The album is available now for preorder.
Matthew Knox states:
“The album is our love letter to the bombastic spirit of heavy metal from the ’80s and early ’90s.” ‘Ontological Mysterium’ is an allegorical tale of creation, the formation of organic life, and the inadvertently and ironically destructive fate of unbound growth and uncontrollable reproduction. It represents the wild voracity of youth and inevitable transition into the gradual decay of aging in its various forms, fulfilling the unbroken circle of a biological existence.”
Drummer Jamie Knox states:
“Surprises always come up during writing—spontaneous ideas pull you into new territory and enable the realization of novel possibilities that previously were inaccessible.”
The cover art for Ontological Mysterium was designed by Brian Smith who also designed the covers for the band’s last three albums. The record was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Subterranean Watchtower Studios in Virginia, also the homestead of guitarist/vocalist Damian Herring.
