The U.K.’s ultimate rock band, Grammy-Award nominated and world touring band IDLES, have brought a combustible album into 2024; TANGK via Partisan Records. IDLES have a whole arsenal along with some other special surprises for us.
The band dropped this bombshell video collaboration remake with Chris Martin from Coldplay as they reimagined Coldplay’s “Yellow” video for the new “Grace” video. Also, they recently threw it down on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, debuting “Gift Horse” live and playing it with every fiber of their beings Shortly after, IDLES flew back home to the U.K. with shows in Shoreditch, London, and Bristol debuting their album release, TANGK.
TANGK will have you on the edge of your seat. With 11 songs, the album delves into strong bass rhythms, in-your-face vocals, and slamming guitars and drums. Some songs are flowy and smooth, with their rock dance vibes and total punk rock alternative blends. Their unique sound is authentic, and the fanbase has grown to millions all over the world. Think of the Clash, Sex Pistols, Queen, Henry Rollins, and Joy Division.
With an intricate background influence of music from punk rock to folk, IDLES are not like any other band we have ever witnessed. The video goes like bread and butter to this song “Grace” that was recently released! Apparently, this whole idea for the “Grace” video came to Joe Talbot, front man of Idles, in a dream. Shortly after, Joe reached out to Chris Martin about the idea, and the Coldplay frontman not only gave his blessing to make the idea a reality, but also assisted with this process. This video has a man walking on the edge of the ocean on a dark, cloudy, cold day. He looks tired and withered from life, but keeps walking because he has no other choice. Chris Martin is featured in the video remake from “Yellow,” and now this sweet gift “Grace” has been birthed and brought to life. “Grace” has this humanistic relentlessness with a sentimental vibe to it.
Check out “Dancer,” which also has a video for it, and will have you dancing around with utterly not a care in the world. Their lyrical content is fun and freeing. “I can taste the mood in my mouth, like particles of punch-drunk love.“ This is a brilliant and mind-numbing tune for the soul!
“Gift Horse” demands all your attention with this punchy, hypnotic, punky riff taking you for that extraordinary ride you have long waited for! “Pop Pop Pop” reminds me of 80’s alternative Talking Heads rhythm throwing in some Cake. Check out the rest of this album, and just take your time, because it will move you. Eleven songs, pure freedom, hypnotic punk rock with profound stage presence! Their previous singles “Gift Horse” and “Dancer”—the song which featured guest backing vocals from LCD Soundsystem duo James Murphy and Nancy Whang—are out and ready for rocking!
