Iggy Pop has been on a jaunt recently, seemingly pushing for the legacy of both his most recent album Free and his entire career. Pop caps off a run of live collaborations and late night TV appearances with an online listening experience streaming at 3 p.m. EST today on YouTube.
Pop made a well-received appearance alongside Laurie Anderson at Carnegie Hall where the two performed “We Are The People,” an interpretation of an unfinished Velvet Underground song that made it onto Free. A stark music video of Pop’s studio version of the track followed.
Pop also appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to perform Serge Gainsbourg’s “Elisa” with Jane Burkin. A stop at the Gainsbourg Tribute at the Beacon Theater followed.
Fans unable to attend those events can also get in on the Iggy Pop-push with a limited “test pressing” copy of Free that features new cover art and creative collaboration with Maurizio Cattelan and includes a bonus 7″ with Pop’s a capella rendition of “Brahm’s Lullaby” and “Epistle To Tromba,” an ode to a late canine companion.
Of course, fans can also tune into the YouTube listening experience to see Pop in conversation with fans as he explores Free.
