Pop-punk artist Jack The Underdog puts out his debut album HAPPY SADDERDAY!, a collection of songs anchored by his scene hit “SAD TODAY.” The fast-rising solo musician is a member of Riot House, a popular collection of independent, alternative artists.
“When I set out to start creating HAPPY SADDERDAY!” back in December of 2022, I wanted to find a balance of songs that spanned multiple sub-genres throughout the alternative world, “ Jack Ohmes says. “My main goal was to create an album of music that I loved and wanted to hear within the pop-punk music scene.”
Ohmes grabbed pop-punk listeners’ attention with his 2023 release of “SAD TODAY” followed by the equally catchy “FENCES (STFU).” The pair have combined to amass more than a million listens on the major streaming platforms.
“’SAD TODAY’ not only helped inspire me to believe in myself as a musician/ songwriter again, but also influenced me to continue building up the full album,” Ohmes says of the song.
HAPPY SADDERDAY! reflects a new corner of pop-punk, one that provides solo artists room to create beyond the genre’s traditional boundaries. Ohmes nine-track production incorporates Swiftie-esque hooks and bubbly anthems with effects more commonly found in hip-hop or pop. Ohmes effortlessly switches from a melodic vocal pattern to rhythmic, borderline rap.
Ohmes describes the album as a joint effort, one in which some of his favorite producers, writers and musicians helped create.
“Designed to be a versatile soundtrack that listeners can blast with their windows down, scream at the top of their lungs, or get in a good cry to,” Ohmes continues, describing his debut, major release.
He says there is a second part of the album coming out later this year. In the meantime, Ohmes has a number of live shows scheduled. He’ll also continue working with his Riot House colleagues. Keep up with his work here.
