News: Jen Razavi Shares First Solo Single

Household names in the punk world, The Bombpops have released several well received albums and toured with bands such as The Descendents, Bad Religion, and Dropkick Murphy’s since they entered the scene in 2007. Vocalist and guitarist for the band, Jen Razavi, also known as Jen Pop, has exemplified her southern California skate punk background with the band, but being a multifaceted musician with a plethora of influences to draw from, Razavi has more to give.

Today, April 28, Razavi released her first ascent into her solo career, a single titled “Saw in Half.” The song touches on the tenderness of heartbreak that resonates with Razavi’s indie rock inspired vocalization. Where The Bombpops bring racing tempos and melodies with an edge, “Saw in Half” explores the realms of malancholic pop and indie sounds.

The single resonates with pop and indie genres in a lyrical sense as well, but speak from a place of vulnerability with Razavi’s personal experiences rising to the surface. “It’s a song I wrote exploring the power dynamics of a one-sided, toxic relationship through the lens of a magician’s assistant being sawed in half. Just like the magic act, the relationship creates an atmosphere of suspense and intrigue but ultimately leaves the individual feeling broken,” Razavi said of the song.

Working producer Will Yip, known for his work with Turnstile, Code Orange, Scowl, Title Fight and other well known acts in the punk scene, the song comes to life in full color, just as Razavi intended. Yip and Razavi recorded a full album together that will be released later this year.

“Saw in Half” is available to stream now, with a video coming on May 3.
