Johnny Marr has announced the upcoming release of Spirit Power: The Best of Johnny Marr, out November 3rd, 2023, via BMG. The album will not only feature personally curated collection of tracks from the last ten years of Marr’s solo career, but also introduce fans to two new tracks, “Somewhere” and “The Answer” (co-produced by James Doviak).
When speaking about “Somewhere”, Marr stated,
“I’ve played a lot of arenas over the years, and in terms of songwriting, there’s nowhere to hide. For a song to work, it has to be a banger. I know it’s almost uncool to think in those terms, but I grew up in a house where my parents listened to Motown, where you couldn’t get a song released if it wasn’t full of hooks.”
Spirit Power: The Best of Johnny Marr features twenty-one tracks, selected from four widely acclaimed UK Top 10 solo albums – The Messenger (2013), Playland (2014), Call the Comet (2018), Fever Dreams Pt 1-4 (2022), as well as non-album single releases, a Depeche Mode cover, and unheard demos and rarities (featured on the deluxe version).
