Austin-based artist Katacombs has released a new music video for “Blue Beard.” Katacombs is the latest signing to Liars Club, the label founded by Amigo The Devil and Regime Music Group, and “Blue Beard” stands as the second single off her debut release, You Will Not.
It comes right on the heels of the EP’s eponymous track and music video, and sets the stage for the project’s full release on February 4. The video, directed by Paul Galvan, complements Katacombs’ experimental sound with hauntingly beautiful shots, chopped up and strung together artfully.
This song is based on the French folktale “Bluebeard,” written from the perspective of a woman being punished by her king for the depths of her natural curiosity and thirst for truth. The video represents that divine curiosity and quest for truth as it relates to finding oneself. The two “versions” of Katacombs that you see in the music video represent that journey.
As Katerina Kiranos (Katacombs) puts it: “Playing the guitar symbolizes calling myself back home when I stray too far. She is the compass. The other version of myself in the video is the wild self that digs, climbs, moves, and howls her way through the episodes of my life.”

You Will Not was recorded at Rustbelt Studios in Detroit, Michigan, with producers Steve Lehane and Beau Bedford. The EP is a collection of songs that individually represent a place and time of Katacombs’ life, amounting to an emotional rollercoaster that traverses geographical borders and genres, hitting the highs and the lows of self-discovery. Katacombs aims to write music for scenes in life that don’t yet exist, but can ultimately universally resonate. Katacombs’ music is an immersive, sonic experience that envelops listeners in eerie vocals and dark electronic string work, almost reminiscent of a film score. The end result when mixing these components is a beautiful catharsis; a sound that is uniquely Katacombs.
