Songwriter and lead singer form the New York-based band Mad Meg releases his solo single and music video. Ilya Popenko’s new track is titled “The Horse Is Not Mine” and dropped on March, 1.
“I’m not me, and the horse is not mine,” are the verbatim translations of the lyrics, which is another way to say, “I have nothing to do with that.
Popenko often incorporates direct translations of Russian proverbs in his songs. He’s a multidisciplinary artist born in the Soviet Union before immigrating to the United States when he was a teenager.
Coupled with his award-winning filmmaking, Popenko formed the eclectic Mad Meg in 2011. The band toured throughout the vast, frozen expanse of Eastern Europe, sharing the state with regional luminaries. Mad Meg even recorded a live album in a female prison in Lithuania.
With Mad Meg on hiatus, Popenko began working on his solo music. You can keep a close eye out for future releases here.
