News: Maria Somerville Announces New ‘Luster Remix’ EP

Maria Somerville

Maria Somerville is taking a victory lap. Following the success of her critically acclaimed 4D debut Luster, she returns with her new Luster (Remixes) EP. Consisting of six new remixes from her friends and collaborators (Seefeel, YHWH Nailgun, colle, Fatshaudi, Asa Nisi Masa & Oscar18, and Boris), Luster (Remixes) reimagines the already spacey atmosphere of Luster into something completely new. In addition, Somerville will embark on a new spring tour beginning on February 11. She will also be supporting two of My Bloody Valentine’s UK/EU tour dates in November.

The Irish dream pop songwriter is riding the wave of her newest record Luster. Through ambient drones, intimate guitars, and washes of reverberated haze, Somerville has cultivated a sound that is equal parts dreamy and isolating, as though wandering through a sparse and misty rural mountainside.

Upon its announcement, three of its six tracks have been released. “Stonefly (Seefeel Remix)” removes the original’s waltz-like percussion and instead fully succumbs to the ambience that undergirds Luster. “Projections (colle Remix)” inverses the original’s somber undertones, opting for cavernous reverb and an acoustic guitar that begets images of dawn breaking through a misty forest. “Up (Fatshaudi Remix)” amplifies “Up”‘s already wistful melody with a brightly colored synth and a faster groove. It’s the most lovely Maria Somerville has ever sounded.

Luster(Remixes) EP is out January 21. See tour dates below.
