Midwife is set to release her new fourth album No Depression In Heaven, on September 6. The music was mostly written on the road while she was on tour for the last few years. The album deals with themes such as sentimentality, the interplay between dreams, memory, and fantasy, and most importantly, grief, which is a recognizable topic throughout all of Midwife’s musical work. No Depression In Heaven is the testimony of Madeline Johnston existential status as a woman of the highway.
The artist has released a new single, “Vanessa,” from the upcoming album.

Johnston shares her thoughts about the album:
“It’s about the transient nature of what we do. Our bodies are vessels—Our bodies are, together, a vessel, a vehicle, and that togetherness allows us to become something larger than ourselves in the slipstream of the unconscious, droving.”
