Mizmor

Pacific Northwest solo-outfit Mizmor has announced his long-awaited, new, full-length album Prosaic, which is also his Profound Lore Records debut. The record will be out on July 21. The new album follows Mizmor’s universally lauded albums Wit’s End and Cairn. Before the upcoming release, Mizmor have released a new song, “No Place To Arrive,” accompanied with a stunning music video.

A.L.N. shares his thoughts about “No Place To Arrive” and the video:

“’No Place To Arrive’ is a song about the tension between distraction and focus. There’s so much needless suffering bound up in being distracted by thought and identifying with our personal narratives, which play out almost constantly in the mind if you pay close attention. Often we feel things like, ‘The grass is always greener,’ or, ‘If only I could this; if only it were like that…’ as if there’s some elusive destination we will eventually come to that will free us from our mental suffering. In most cases, this is an illusion. ‘No Place To Arrive’ emphasizes the value of breaking spells like this and living in the present moment. The destination we search for is already available to us in the here and now if we could only drop back and experience a more transparent version of consciousness, one that is less clouded with the stories we tell ourselves every moment of every day. This is of course no easy task and is often a seemingly constant struggle. It is so easy, and even attractive at times, to drift off into a waking dream, to distract ourselves in order to escape reality, even if the inner workings of this process remain largely hidden from us.

“With the music video for the song, Zev Deans and I sought to depict this struggle by transitioning back-and-forth between surreal and real elements. Surreality encroaches and seeks to divert my attention away from the task at hand (building a fire). I am constantly seeking to stay focused but at one point I succumb to the distraction and enter a fantasy world. After this diversion, I snap back into my body, shake off the delirium, and finish the fire which I ignite in a blaze of glory, conquering the demons of distraction and needless suffering. The setting of the video was inspired by the ‘Prosaic’ album cover by Bryan Proteau, which wonderfully depicts the album’s theme – the absurdity, suffering, and purpose of work in our daily lives.”
