Modern Monsters (Rich Wells, Brody Bass, Keenan Tuohy, Josh Weaver, and Wyatt Lennon) are a hard rock band that are ready to deliver raw energy, brutal instrumentals, and emotionally intense lyrics with their new EP, Malice, which comes out March 24 on streaming platforms.
From the Bay Area of California, these guys have dug deep into their musical roots, taking influence from bands like Faith No More, Alice in Chains, and AFI, to create their punchy signature sound. Speaking of influences, Modern Monsters even included a punk version of Jefferson Airplane’s track “White Rabbit” on the EP.
With the track “Road to Nowhere” off of the EP, perilous love is expressed with lyrics like, “Without warning she grabbed my gun / She’s the girl with the world in her hair / Woke one morning and I was on the run / Driving for miles on a road nowhere,” and “Is this the way it has to be / And as we ride into the sun / You know the end has begun.”
“”Road to Nowhere” is a “live fast, die young” song,” Modern Monsters share with us. “The subject/speaker falls in love with a girl, knowing it will end tragically. “She’s the girl with the world in her hair,” is imagery text describing a girl who has experience/has traveled the world, and as a result the subject/speaker is intrigued by her/falls in love with her.”
“But we love that with the beauty of music, the listener can make the story their own, with whatever personal connection they may have with any of the lyrics.”
