Moor Mother, the solo project of Philadelphia-based experimental artist Camae Ayewa, announced the project’s upcoming ninth album The Great Bailout to be released on Epitaph sub-label ANTI- Records on March 8. While the ninth album for the artist overall, The Great Bailout represents the project’s third on ANTI-.
Ayewa has promised that this album will take an unflinching look at the violent history of British colonialism. “Research is a major part of my work, and researching history—particularly African history, philosophy, and time—is a major interest,” the artist explains. “Europe and Africa have a very intimate and brutal relationship throughout time. I’m interested in exploring that relationship of colonialism and liberation, in this case in Great Britain.”
To celebrate the album announcement, Moor Mother released a lyric video for the lead single “Guilty” which features guest artists Lonnie Holley and Raia Was. Check out the song below.
