In celebration of the beloved Brooklyn venue Saint Vitus Bar, photographer Nathaniel Shannon has created an archive detailing the venue’s first ten years. Saint Vitus Bar: The First Ten Years, An Oral and Visual History features interviews, posters, stories, photographs, essays—one by Dan Ozzi (Sellout)—and an introduction from Walter Schreifels of Quicksand.
The whopping novel—350 pages in total—features over a hundred contributions from Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Jeff Walker (Carcass), Saint Vitus (the band), the Descendents, Anthrax, Against Me!, Eyehategod, Dillinger Escape Plan, the Armed, Chuck Klosterman, and many more.
The Kickstarter wrapped up on July 22, more than surpassing its goal of $30,000. In fact, the novel more than doubled its goal, raising over $73,000. Rewards for contributing ranged from the book, tote bags, shirts, Punk Rock Museum tickets, and prints.
This will be Shannon’s first novel. Born in Detroit, he came of age in the hardcore, metal, and punk scenes, photographing shows all around the city. Later, he moved to New York to finish college, which is when he got involved with Saint Vitus Bar.
