The Chicagoland band New Age Thief have arrived to make a mark with their debut album Stars Align.
The story behind this release is as fascinating as the music itself: Just two days before heading into the studio, singer and guitarist Gino Savarino suffered a collarbone fracture at a Heart Attack Man concert. However, rather than giving up, Savarino took the setback in stride, assuring that “nothing was going to stop us.”
Since forming in 2023, Savarino and drummer Brady Corcoran have been merging their musical influences, ranging from nu-metal to indie rock, creating a fresh sound that pays homage to their roots. Produced by Brett Romnes (Hot Mulligan, Mom Jeans), the album captures that blend of nostalgia and modernity that resonates with listeners.
“Stars Align” offers a 28-minute listening experience filled with energy and emotion. With tracks like “Cherish,” which kicks off with raw guitars and catchy hooks, and “Circle The Room,” which keeps the momentum with punchy percussion, the album is a journey through their emo-rock influences. Notably, “Memento” showcases the band’s ability to connect with the listener through its reflective build.
Although the album includes a couple of interludes, this detail does not overshadow the overall quality of the work. New Age Thief demonstrates that, despite being new to the scene, they possess the talent and maturity of more established bands. With “Stars Align,” they have achieved a solid debut that is sure to leave an impression.
