Asbury Park, New Jersey-based band Bristler recently released their debut single “Jaguar Shark” off their forthcoming album Cascades at Play which comes out March 8 on Mint 400 Records. With elements of post-rock and midwestern emo reminiscent of early Death Cab for Cutie, Bristler harkens back to the glory days before the emo genre married pop-punk and became a mainstream phenomenon.
Bristler is born out of the ashes of singer/guitarist Rudy Meier’s previous band Wetbrain. Cascades at Play is a revisiting of Wetbrain’s shelved third LP that was cancelled after the band dissolved during the pandemic. Having crossed paths with members of fellow Asbury Park rock band Yawn Mower about a decade ago, Meier teamed up with Yawn Mower drummer Biff Swenson and bassist Dana Yurcisin to create the new band, Bristler.
