News: No Devotion Announce New Album ‘No Oblivion’ with Single ‘Starlings’

Seven years has passed since No Devotion— featuring vocalist Geoff Rickly (of Thursday), bassist Stuart Richardson, and guitarist Lee Gaze— released their acclaimed debut album, Permanence

The very same week Permanence was released, Rickly was mugged and hospitalized on tour in Germany, the band’s record label collapsed, and they barely made it through the remainder of the scheduled dates.

Following this string of extremely unfortunate events, the members began to re-imagine the project as a personal lab of new sounds— a private vault where they could store some of their most personal experiences. Until now.

No Devotion No Oblivion

Out September 16, No Oblivion, the long-awaited follow-up album was recorded, produced and mixed by Richardson. With songs deeply rich in texture, innovative in form, and full of pain, the album offers itself as a beautiful resurrection

Lead single “Starlings” might be the most relatable chorus that Geoff Rickly has ever written. “Does anybody else know how I feel?,” he wonders as the band paints the picture of depression’s Black Dog as an ever-twisting flight of blackbirds, moving across the sky in endless permutations, rendering life prismatic in its capacity for new hurt.
