Baltimore’s Pinkshift releases their latest single “to me” via Hopeless Records prior to hitting the road with Origami Angel Kicks on April 21. The single marks the first release since the band’s debut album “Love Me Forever” from 2022.
On this single, the band opt for a slower melody compared to their prior releases. It’s layered with distorted guitar tunings and a rich rhythm section, reminiscent of iconic rock and punk bands that came before them. Paired with lyrics alluding to young love, the song delivers a tender feel with nostalgic undertones.
Recorded with Will Yip, who worked with groups such as Turnstile and Mannequin Pussy, the track is a milestone in the group’s journey lyrically and sonically. According to lead vocalist Ashrita Kumar, the song is the band’s first true love song.
“Love is a powerful form of energy that is not just given or taken, but flows endlessly and connects us all. ‘To me’ speaks to the indestructibility of such an energy and what it feels like to hold love close to your heart and with those around you. It is a realization that despite everything that is difficult, to be truly loved is to love ourselves,” Kumar says of the track.
The track, “to me” is available to stream now. Tickets for Pinkshift’s upcoming tour are available on their website.
