Public Image Ltd. have shared their latest single “Car Chase” off of their upcoming album End of World. The album, set to release on Aug. 11, is their first in eight years and eleventh studio album overall.
The single came with a new video that provides a glimpse into the band’s process of recording the album. On the track, vocalist John Lyndon says, “It’s a fantastic smash-and-grab of a song. It’s about someone who cleverly breaks out of the mental institution every night, unbeknownst to his owners. It’s based on having to go to shopping malls at night for cigarettes and wine and seeing the vast carpark space and lighting surrounded by a little village and a lot of dark trees and country lanes. It’s a really creepy scenario; what if somebody creeps out of there, like a mad lunatic?”
That imagery pours right out of the lyricism and tone of the song, matching the emotive capabilities of prior singles “Hawaii” and “Penge.” The album is a testament to the band’s 40 years of musical influence and drive to reach greater heights with each release.
The band will be touring in support of the new album with dates in the U.K. starting on August 8, as well as European dates throughout October. Tickets can be found on the Public Image Ltd. website.
End of World is available to presave now.
