Columbus, Ohio alternative rock group Red Temple Pray have released a music video for their newest single, “Chlorine.” The band present a riff-heavy sound with melancholic overtones, and within the new single, they’re able to produce a very dreamlike atmosphere. Vocalist Josh Richter conjures up honest emotions derived from his past that feed into the overall raw sincerity heard within the song.
Of the new single, Richter states: “‘Chlorine’ is a true story about a childhood friend of my cousin. My cousin was having a pool party for her 13th birthday, and all of her friends were there, including a girl I had a crush on. I was 10 or 11 at the time, and I remember that being a real turning point in my youth because I realized I would rather be around that girl than to go play video games or play with toys or something. I remember emotionally not understanding the ‘coming of age’ moment and how much anxiety leaving the comfort of being a little kid brought me. Later in life she ended up overdosing and passing away, so I wrote a song about those two specific moments. They both, in a way, represent the death of my childhood.”
Red Temple Pray released their debut EP, Violently Lush, and immediately started writing for a full-length. The new single was engineered and mixed by Andy Nelson of Bricktop Recording and mastered by Brad Boatright of Audiosiege.
Red Temple Pray will be hitting the road for the month of September with support from Getting Over. Full dates listed in the flyer below.
