News: Return To Earth Announce New Album ‘Oblivion’

Return To Earth The Slicer

Alternative metal band Return To Earth are getting ready to drop a brand new four song release entitled Octavius I on May 10. The band feature Brett Aveni and Ron Scalzo with Chris Pennie on drums. Some of you may recognize Pennie who’s worked with Coheed And Cambria and Dillinger Escape Plan in the past. To tide you over, Return To Earth have released the single “The Slicer.” Check it out below.

Return To Earth previously dropped Captains Of Industry in 2007 and Automata 2010, released on Metal Blade Records. A decade would go by before the New Jersey hard rock trio would release Oblivion upon an unsuspecting world in 2022.

Regarding the long layoff between albums, Pennie says:

“We’re not tied to any scene or label or any outside trend. That gives us freedom to create what we want and enjoy the process of taking however long to craft something that we enjoy making.”

Scalzo comments:

“I kept coming back to these unfinished symphonies we had worked on years earlier that, now, felt more relevant than ever. What was happening in my own life—and in the world we all found ourselves in—inspired some immediacy to pull some songs off the shelf and rework them. Writing for Return To Earth has been an outlet to expel some personal demons, but also to kind of stew in the darkness. Laying down vocals felt like an exorcism at times. The results: nine new songs that showcase Return To Earth’s progressive songwriting and eclectic musical style.”
