Austin, Texas groove metal trio Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol announced the release of their upcoming LP today. The new album is called Big Dumb Riffs and promises to deliver on exactly what the title says. “Our catalog has never been short on big dumb riffs, but the idea on this record was to really turn the screw,” says the band’s bassist Aaron Metzdorf. “On Big Dumb Riffs, that screw is cranked incredibly tight.”
Metzdorf continued on to explain more of what to expect from the album. “We just wanted ‘the part’: The opening of Pantera’s ‘Primal Concrete Sledge,’ the breakdown in Primus’ ‘Pudding Time’ — the shit that makes you move and lose your mind. Just that part the whole time.”
“The whole writing process was, ‘What if we just played two notes the whole song?’” Metzdorf continues. “What if we tuned down to almost unusable string tension? What if we write a record that will make everyone say, ‘Wow, that is dumb’? Leo and I really move around on stage a lot. Being a dingus is crucial to the groove. All these riffs were designed to allow us to act bigger and dumber on stage.”
Along with the announcement comes the release of the first single off the album, “Body Bag.” Much like the rest of the album, the song is short and sweet and based on a simple power-packed riff that more than lives up to the title of the album. It’s a metal groove that’s likely to stick in your head for days. Check out the track below.
On top of all of that, the band are also announcing their latest tour of the United States, which kicks off in their hometown of Austin, Texas in February and goes through April finishing up in Denver, Colorado. Check out the full list of dates below.
