News: Sarah Walk Releases New Single ‘My Body’

Indie pop singer-songwriter Sarah Walk releases their latest single today called “My Body.” The single explores Walk’s personal experience with gender dysphoria that led to them undergoing top surgery.

“The groove and initial production for ‘My Body’ was created during a month-long trip of mine to NYC in 2021,” explains Walk about the new single. “I was just beginning to allow myself to talk about the subject matter in this song, but it was still something I was terrified about. I had really only discussed any discomfort in my body with my wife at the time but hadn’t even begun any steps towards considering getting top surgery (which ended up happening about a year later).”

Walk continues, “I first wrote the drum groove and bass line and wanted to get some kind of phonetic temporary lyric down which, somewhat subconsciously, came out as ‘my body’s not my own, my body’s not my home.’ I liked the idea of keeping the song sort of trance-like, almost like running in place without any traditional structure because that’s how it felt at the time—somewhere between paralysis and eruption of emotion. About a year later, I had the pleasure of working on some demos I had put together with Stella Mozgawa, and I was really excited to see how she could help bring the production to life. I credit Stella for allowing me the comfort to bring this song in – especially when we didn’t know each other prior!”

The single follows the release of Walk’s single “Lean In” which was released as part of the official soundtrack to the Apple TV+ series The Buccaneers, with the song scheduled to be featured in an episode of the show on November 29.
