Schammasch have released new single “Image Of The Infinite” from their forthcoming record The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean. The new album is due out October 25 via Prosthetic Records. This is Schammasch’s sixth studio album and second in their Maldoror Chants series featuring the vocal talents of Norwegian vocal prodigy Kathrine Shepard (Sylvaine).

Regarding the new single, Schammasch state:

“Joining forces with Norwegian multi-instrumentalist and vocal prodigy Kathrine Shepard, better known as Sylvaine, SCHAMMASCH further explore their balladesque side on Image of the Infinite—a heartmelting post-punk hymn of oceanic beauty and dark romanticism that gives contrast to the overall bleakness inheriting Old Ocean.”

The Maldoror Chants is an ongoing series of works drawing from a 19th century literary work, Les Chants de Maldoror, an important component of the surrealist movement of that era. Regarding the new album, Schammasch have drawn from sections of that book that have to do with the ocean, and its beauty, and its kinship to humanity. Schammasch tell this tale through ethereal, gothic undertones highlighted by poignant spoken word passages and carried forth with the band’s characteristic undulating, and rhythmic flows set against a harsh, post-black metal backdrop.
