SkyDxddy on “Medusa”:
“I wanted to tell the untold story of Medusa while giving anyone feeling marginalized something to sing and feel powerful about. We deserve to unapolgetically stand in our own strength.”
The track takes the myth of Medusa that portrays her transformation into a monster by Athena as punishment for being violated by Poseidon. It’s designed to highlight the historical tendency within society to blame the victim rather than address the actions of the perpetrator. A common pattern within both Medusa’s story and the reality of today is that the systems of power would rather restrict or punish women rather than protecting them or ensuring their autonomy. With the overturning of Roe v. Wade casts the message of Medusa into a stark relief.
Sky talks about Medusa’s story:
“When I started working on the song, Roe v. Wade had already been overturned. I’ve felt frustration and rage about how women are treated since the first time I experienced sexual assault. The current climate reinforces Medusa’s message. In a world where men jokingly use phrases like “your body, my choice,” women need to know they have the very right to fight back against the idea that our bodies don’t belong to us. Rose-colored glasses are powerful and people love to put them on to avoid hard conversations, protect social status or avoid reflecting on who they’ve chosen to trust and/or associate with.”
Over the past year, SkyDxddy has teamed up with Citizen Soldier for the single, “Heavy,” which ranked #5 on Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song Sales and #2 on iTunes’ rock chart with a #19 debut on the Top 200. Between writing and recording, she has spent the majority of the year touring relentlessly with bands such as We Three, Icon For Hire and Citizen Soldier. Currently, she’s putting the finishing touches on her debut album that is set to release sometime in 2025 via It Goes Up Entertainment/Compound Interest.
