New York-area-based pop-punk band Smooth Brain released their forceful new single “Over Again (Over Again).” The song describes the tragic story of vocalist Izzy Gunn’s house burning down when she was 15.
“This is the most personal I’ve ever gotten with my writing,” Gunn says. “I’m always writing about my experiences, but this it’s about the worst experience of my life.”
In the track, Gunn paints the picture of that day; how her house burned down and she helped her family escape. She was diagnosed with PTSD after the trauma.
“I replayed the sequence of events of the day my house burned down in my head for over a year constantly,” she continues.
The band also released details about their upcoming debut EP Friendly Fire. It is independently crafted and will drop on June, 23. Hansel Romero, the frontperson and producer of Baltimore soulpunk band nightlife, produced it. Romero, who has worked with Pinkshift, Stray From The Path and Loveless, also co-wrote Smooth Brain’s EP.
