After over two decades of recording and touring with their individually prominent indie bands from the 90s and early 00s. The new album features nine tracks that set it apart from previous work due to the audio duality dynamic, whilst retaining accessible pop structures and hooks.
The members of the band collectively represent a fantastic roster with their previous musical endeavors. Besides the DIY values and work ethic that was put into place, the band don’t need to rehash much from literal musical influence. Each player brings their own signature element that’s quite recognizable; however, this is something new. Suburban Eyes features Eric Richter (guitars and vocals), Jeremy Gomez (bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals), and John (drums, keyboards and percussion).
Jeremy Gomez on Suburban Eyes:
“I think that all three of us are far enough removed from our past projects at this point. That’s not to say you don’t continue to carry those things with you, but creatively speaking, none of us even gave them our previous bands any thought, good or bad, when working on this project.”
Jeremy handled the bulk of the production and engineering on the upcoming self-titled debut, the album had reached new heights when they brought in the Grammy Award winning mixer, Peter Katis. While a departure from the traditional “work-it-out in the studio” approach, it allowed for an introspective and virtual process, many of the challenges transitioned into opportunities as the band continuously honed the direction of the record. Additionally, Suburban Eyes is not only a story of reconnection, but also a lesson in taking things further than previously thought possible via different avenues.
Jeremy Gomez on working on with Peter Katis:
“We also knew that since this was going to be our introduction to the world that we wanted it to sound better than it would it if was just me fumbling and faking my way through the mixes. When Peter began working on the record, it became pretty obvious pretty quickly that there is a reason why he is a sought after mixing engineer. As we continued to finish the writing and preproduction process for the rest of the tracks, there was really no choice but to have Peter continue to mix the rest.”
