Sum 41 have announced the cancellation of their Australian farewell shows, including their headlining slot at the Good Things Festival, due to frontman Deryck Whibley’s ongoing battle with pneumonia.
In a heartfelt statement, the band expressed their disappointment and gratitude for fans’ understanding. Although unable to perform, they encouraged fans to enjoy the festival’s impressive lineup. Sum 41 are still scheduled to wrap up their farewell tour in Canada early next year. We’re wishing Whibley a speedy recovery!
“It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed,” wrote Sum 41. “We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 – December 12, and connect with our Aussie fans once more. Now that we’re here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it’s clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform. We understand and appreciate your disappointment—We’re gutted too.
“The good news is Good Things Festival is still going ahead in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane this weekend with an incredible line-up of local and international acts. We can’t be there, but get along for us and have the best time.”
Whibley has previously battled pneumonia, which has been a serious health concern. We wish him a swift recovery and look forward to seeing Sum 41 safely conclude their career. The band are still set to perform their final shows in Canada this January. Tickets are available here.
