The world’s strongest and most interesting band is back with a dizzying expansion on the sonic world they created with last year’s ULTRAPOP. The Armed and Sargent House have released the soundtrack to their music film, ULTRAPOP: Live At The Masonic.
The visual part of ULTRAPOP: Live At The Masonic is much more suitable to art-school nerds and film buffs, chock full of Lynchian dread and cuts to different facets of the mind-blowingly beautiful, 550,000-square-foot interior of the Masonic Temple in downtown Detroit. Live performance and story-driven narrative melt seamlessly into one another, as the film confronts themes of identity, information warfare, the commoditization of artistic products and the commodification of the artist.
On the other hand, the soundtrack is a beautiful live translation of songs from The Armed’s recent output. Track selections from Only Love, their song for the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack, and ULTRAPOP (obviously) round out this powerhouse of a record. Intense, melodic, crystalline, and moving, it is one of the most impressive live albums I have ever had the joy of listening to.
While we don’t get the visual counterpart until October of this year, the full soundtrack is available now and I promise you will not regret the time you spend with it. ULTRAPOP: Live At The Masonic is out TODAY via Sargent House and you may listen to it and purchase it here.
