News: The Body And Dis Fig Announce Collaborative Album

The Body and Dis Fig have announced a debut collaborative album, Orchards Of A Futile Heaven, due out February 23 on Thrill Jockey. They’ve released their first single, the dystopian “Holy Lance,” which is streaming now.

The Body (Lee Buford and Chip King) defy conventional notions of what metal is having collaborated with artists as diverse as the folk-leanings of BIG|BRAVE, their groundbreaking work with the Assembly of Light Choir, and their work with extreme heavyweights OAA and Thou.

Dis Fig is Felicia Chen, known for pushing the boundaries of electronic music. Chen is known for her warped DJ sets, being a member of Tianzhuo Chen’s performance-art series “Trance,” and her vocalist turn with The Bug. The Body & Dis Fig came together in their desire to find new ways to make heavy music that looked beyond the generally accepted notions of metal and electronic music by merging the two.

The Body’s Lee Buford states:

“I always wanted the heavier stuff but I also didn’t really like heavier guitar music. None of it really felt quite heavy enough to me. A human can’t be as heavy as a machine.”

Felicia Chen adds:

“I love the balance. You could never connect to just a machine as well as you could a human. Which is why the combination is so potent for me. I don’t want to hide. I think nothing connects you more empathetically than another human’s voice.”

Orchards Of A Futile Heaven is available for preorder now. The Body & Dis Fig plan to tour throughout the US, UK, and Europe in 2024.
