Legendary punk band The Bollweevils announced their first album in quite a long time. While much of their press materials boast the new album, which is out May 5 and titled Essential, as the band’s first release in 14 years, the last album they put out was 1999’s History of the Bollweevils, Pt. II, and even that was actually a compilation, meaning that their last proper LP was 1995’s Heavyweight, making Essential their first album 28 years.
In addition to the announcement of the album comes the release of the second single and video from the record. They released “Liniment and Tonic” in 2021, which marks the first single to be released off the new album. The new song “Predisposition” is the second.
Speaking about the new track, frontman Dr. Daryl Wilson says, “The song is questioning if we as humans have hate ingrained in our being. I think we are blank slates that are painted by our experiences, and although we all suffer from being stained, it isn’t an inevitability that we must choose to succumb to malice. When we choose the darker paths, it invariably leaves us in a desolate place. You just have to be willing to see the marks on you and then you can work to clean up the blemishes.”
The band also have a few live dates coming up. That includes Pouzza FEST in Montreal in May and FEST in Gainsville, Florida in October. They also have a record release show coming up in Chicago on May 27 with The Dopamines.
You can preorder the album on CD or vinyl from the Red Scare Records webstore. You can also follow the Bollweevils on Facebook and Instagram for future updates and more information on those live shows.
