Following the release of their previous single “This Is Me Now (feat. Kid Brunswick),” Nashville alt-rock group The Frst came out with their new single, “Small Talk,” an analogy for post-pandemic times.

Found Mikei Gray says the single’s origins go back to the last year, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“’Small Talk’ started by jotting down the phrase ‘death of small talk’ in my notes app last summer during the height of the COVID-19 crisis. Musically, I wanted something similar but not too close to our song ‘Tarantino,'” Gray says.

“This time around, though, I drop-tuned the guitar to get a little extra attitude and crunch out of it. Adam Lazzara (Taking Back Sunday) gave me his Digitech Grunge pedal a few years ago, and I had been searching for a place to use it in our songs, but couldn’t find a home for it anywhere. It turned out to be the perfect tone for the solo and lead guitar lines in ‘Small Talk’ to help bite through the chunky rhythms.”
